Patents

Lock Icon: Copyright

If you have created an original idea or invention, you can OWN certain rights - rights that can be worth money and goodwill over a clearly defined period of time (typically 20 years, 14 years for “design only” patents).

In exchange for “idea protection”, for this period, you are required to disclose your idea in some detail, so others may use the knowledge later.

Patents are complex and more expensive than other forms of intellectual property such as copyrights and trademarks.  In some cases trade secrets and confidentiality agreements are a better fit, and we can help you to decide such matters.
